The Buddha is an inspiration and a guide for those on the path to Enlightenment. As the embodiment of Enlightenment he represents for Buddhists our spiritual ideal and the supreme goal of life. Buddhists regard the Buddha as the source of teaching and inspiration, and so as an object of deep faith.
Together the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha are called the Three Jewels, which are considered to be the core of Buddhism. Committing ourselves to realising the meaning of the Three Jewels in our life is known as Going for Refuge.
