I’m Kusaladevi and I was ordained in 2015 at Akashavana retreat centre in Spain. I live in Nottingham in the UK, with my partner Paraga, who is also a member of the Triratna Buddhist Order. I’m the chair at the Buddhist centre in Nottingham, so most of my days are spent preparing, supporting and leading events for the Sangha (Buddhist community), meeting Sangha members and doing various tasks to ensure things run well at the Buddhist Centre. Karuna exists to end caste-based discrimination, poverty and inequality in India and Nepal. Kusaladevi writes about her experience working for Karuna: ”It’s hard to summarise my time working at Karuna. A doorstep into the unknown...

Sooo… I’ve just started a six-week fundraising appeal in London with these wonderful people (Mike, Declan, Chris, Ramesh Babar, Vajragupta, and Kusaladevi Spence)! We’re going to be raising money for an amazing charity called Karuna which helps to transform the lives of individuals and communities affected by the tyrannical caste system in India and Nepal. 

We’ve all now arrived and are settling into community we’ll be living in together. For most of us, this is the first time we’ve done anything like this...
