Dharmabytes: Taking Impermanence to Heart

By Centre Team on Mon, 22 Jan, 2024 - 11:00

True wisdom in the Buddhist sense is not book knowledge, but understanding how things really are. The Buddha was always pragmatic in his approach and sought to get straight to the root of suffering. His vision was embedded in conditioned co-production: awareness that things are always coming into being and passing away, and that there are many conditions in play together. Satyajyoti uses the metaphor of the ocean, with many waves arising and passing away, as a...

Dharmabyte: Changingness: All There Is

By Sadayasihi on Mon, 13 Dec, 2021 - 06:00

At the heart of the spiral path is conditioned co-production which at heart means “changingness”. This “changingness” can be creative (leading to more and more beneficial mental states) or reactive (cycling from pleasurable to painful mental states). Subhadramati describes how the spiral path uses a creative “changingness” to grow out of our habitual habits and into liberation.

From the talk The Spiral Path, part of the series ‘The Taste of Freedom’ Revisited given...

Dharmabyte: A State of Pure Happiness

By Sadayasihi on Mon, 25 May, 2020 - 14:00

In answering the question ‘What is Buddhism?’, Sangharakshita identifies higher evolution - the development of higher states of consciousness - with the twelve links in the progressive trend of the Buddha’s teaching of conditioned co-production.

May all beings be well and happy, without fear, without jealousy, may they be full of love, faith and joy. Positive emotion is an essential part of the higher evolution.

This Being retreat day 6, How everything ties together

By Yashobodhi on Thu, 10 Apr, 2014 - 13:50
In the last session of the This Being retreat, Dhivan moves from the three marks of existence to the Middle Way and ends with Nibbana. The latter he beautifully translates as blowing out the flame of compulsion, hostility and confusion. He also addresses the issue of not-self. This is the last full day of the retreat and nearly the end of the uploads here from this retreat. I will hopefully post the This Being That Becomes round chant we have...

Yesterday afternoon Nayaka led a meditation on the spiral path. Most important fact is that it unfolds naturally. ie without wilfulness. In this recording Nayaka gently shows where there could be an opening to the spiral path in our experience.

This Being retreat day 5, The Spiral Path

By Yashobodhi on Wed, 9 Apr, 2014 - 13:53
This session started with the word joy on the flipchart. After that Dhivan asked us to name something that had come up for us with the retreat as condition. As we went round, it was very moving to hear how the retreat was supporting people to work with past and current situations and helping them to set up more conducive conditions for the future.
In this sessioin Dhivan emphasised the natural unfolding of the different steps on the spiral...
