We are delighted to announce the ordinations of the following women at Akashavana, Spain on Saturday 4th June:

becomes Dharmamayi (long ‘i’)
Sanskrit name meaning ’She who is filled with Dharma’.
Westernised spelling: Dharmamayi

Hattie Johnson becomes Akasajoti (long first and second ‘a’s, long ‘i’) 
Pali name meaning: ’She whose radiance is like the sky’.

On 6 June 2015 at Akashavana, the Triratna Women’s Ordination Retreat Centre in the Spanish mountains, 13 women from around the world were ordained into the Triratna Buddhist Order. Here are photos of the women with their Public Preceptors - Maitreyi, Padmasuri and Ratnadharini.

By Munisha on Mon, 22 Dec, 2014 - 17:10In September 2004, Triratna (then the FWBO) became the proud owners of two ruined farmhouses, high in the mountains of Teruel, Spain.

Resident community members Acalavajri and Manigarbha write: “Ten years later, they are home to a thriving community and a remote and beautiful retreat centre: Akashavana, the ‘forest retreat of luminous space’. Primarily for the ordination of women, it also provides an amazing retreat experience for Dharmacharinis.

We started the holiday with a trip to the Netherlands for a week of friendship and culture … it was the annual ‘International Documentary Festival’ and having been starved of culture for a while, it was just the treat we needed. That together with seeing good friends was very nourishing.
