This year is going to be significant for Windhorse Publications. After 50 years in operation, we have a lot to celebrate!

At first, its newsletters and journals were published under the name Friends of the Western Buddhist Order. It then became Windhorse Press in the early 1970s when it began publishing full length books, starting with The Essence...

Dear Friends in the Order,

I’m writing to let you know about the health of our dear friend in the Glasgow sangha, Saranajaya.

More recently, she was readmitted to hospital at the end of December. She was in hospital for two weeks and...

Life at Taraloka

From Taraloka Retreat Centre on Mon, 22 Jan, 2024 - 12:35

It’s a grey, damp morning with a chill in the air.  But I walk over to the retreat centre thinking, as I often do: ‘How did I get so lucky, that this is my life?’  This isn’t publicity, it’s true.  I arrived at Taraloka in 2009 as a not-very-together mitra.  I got ordained through these conditions, I’ve personally changed so much, and I watch my friends in the community transforming too.

Still, fourteen years later, I never wonder why I get out of bed...

Dharmabytes: Taking Impermanence to Heart

From Free Buddhist Audio on Mon, 22 Jan, 2024 - 11:00

True wisdom in the Buddhist sense is not book knowledge, but understanding how things really are. The Buddha was always pragmatic in his approach and sought to get straight to the root of suffering. His vision was embedded in conditioned co-production: awareness that things are always coming into being and passing away, and that there are many conditions in play together. Satyajyoti uses the metaphor of the ocean, with many waves arising and passing away, as a...
