Social Media - pausing...

From Akashavana on Tue, 9 Jul, 2024 - 14:35

We have agreed not to post anything onto Facebook or Instagram for the time being. This decision was initially inspired by the action of Amsterdam Buddhist Centre’s to remove their presence from social media. Our hope is that by consciously deciding to take a similar action we will open up the...

Bristol Buddhist Centre looking for Women's Mitra Convenor

From Jobs, Volunteering & Communities on Sun, 7 Jul, 2024 - 22:56

The Bristol Buddhist Centre is looking for a Women’s Mitra Convenor.  At the last count, we have 46 active women mitras, 34 of whom have asked for ordination.  It’s a lively and engaged women’s sangha, with an increasing number of young women involved.

There are 20 Dharmacharinis in and around the Bristol Centre, 6 of whom are actively involved in a Women’s Mitra Convening Kula.  You would work to and within that kula.  You would also be part of a supportive and...

A Solid Foundation (FBA Podcast)

From Free Buddhist Audio on Sat, 6 Jul, 2024 - 11:00

The human body, at peace with itself, Is more precious than the rarest gem. Cherish your body - it is yours this time only. The human form is won with difficulty, It is easy to lose. All worldly things are brief, Like lightning in the sky; This life you must know As the tiny splash of a raindrop; A thing of beauty that disappears Even as it comes into being. Therefore set your goal; Make use of every day and...

At 16 Sangharakshita read the Diamond Sutra and so realised he was, and always had been, a Buddhist. Yet in Wisdom Beyond Words he describes the sutra as ‘confusing, irritating, annoying, unsatisfying…‘

However, if we are ‘prepared to have our limiting views and ideas shaken up, there are precious jewels to be found in this...

From Dharma Articles on Tue, 2 Jul, 2024 - 11:42

Aparimana & Aranyaka
1 July 2024

Prologue.
As part of an Order Ethical process in which we have been involved we encountered what appeared to be a suggestion that the ‘ethics of effect’ should be taken into account when considering ethical breaches within the Order.
