Buddhist Action Month is underway and here is a timely talk from Arthacarya, given during the recent Australia / New Zealand Order Convention, on the theme of what we can do about the climate crisis. Arthacarya relates his personal journey back to environmental engagement, the trigger being reading the ‘The Uninhabitable Earth’ by David Wallace-Wells in July 2018. He also provides some useful suggestions how Dharma practitioners can contribute to the change that must happen and move away from the four Ds of despair, depression, denial, and distraction - “action is the antidote to despair”.

The talk begins with a rendition of “This is an Emergency” by the ‘Convention Singers’ and there is a short discussion afterwards.

Here’s an interesting discussion on the present climate emergency, and a much older one:

Hi Dayavajra,

I’m afraid I’m really not sure how ‘interesting’, useful or even constructive that picture is, especially given how dated and caricatured it is.

Do all the people who currently accept or argue in favour of anthropogenic climate change really wear homeknitted arran jumpers with dolphins embroidered on them? ;-)

All the Best, Aranyaka x
