According to Tibetan tradition, in the bardo, an ‘intermediate state’ in the endless round of birth and death, we are free for an instant from that round. The Tibetan book of the Dead (Bardo Thodol) describes six of these opportunities for escape from reactivity. Here Sangharakshita explores our resistance to facing death and the impact of the esoteric teachings of Padmasambhava.

The final evening of the 2019 Triratna International Gathering culminated in a rousing Padmasambhava puja led by Singhamati. Invoking Padmasambhava, himself a master magician, was a fitting end to the “Alchemy of the Dharma”.

Here are two of the mantras from this final puja: firstly, an energetic version, with drums and harmony, and then concluding with the ‘longing’ Padmasambhava mantra as the evening drew to a close…

Kachu Rimpoche was a man of great learning, renowned as a deep meditator and visionary, and a gifted sculptor. Rimpoche went out of his way to befriend Sangharakshita. Today’s FBA Dharmabyte is a recollection from Sangharakshita called An Encounter with Padmasambhava in Darjeeling. Padmasambhava, often known as the ‘Second Buddha’, is famous for converting the demons of Tibet. In this lecture we are given a brief biography of Padmasambhava and an outline of the progressive Nyingmapa practices attributed to him.
