Online Zoom Study Just Got Organised

From Jobs, Volunteering & Communities on Thu, 17 Oct, 2024 - 22:12

I am on a support package for the next 12 months to find as many people across the world who are unable to get to study.

Over the last 5 months I’ve put together 9 groups, of mixed and single sex, and of year1, year2 and year3 of the course. Many of these people are from outreach groups or small sanghas, since have mobility issues, some live in counties that have no centre.

Maybe an order member doesn’t have enough people nearby...

Review: The Promise of a Sacred World by Nagapriya (2022)

From Windhorse Publications on Thu, 17 Oct, 2024 - 11:19

No dry, inaccessible, or tedious history, Nagapriya’s book The Promise of a Sacred World is a joy to read and digest as it not only ‘evokes a personal encounter with Shinran’ (5) through a series of meditations, and arouses our fascination with Amida, the Buddha of ‘boundless light’, ‘the source of liberation and of all existential value’ (49), with inspired readings of the Pure Land scriptures, it also draws our attention to key concepts, ‘concepts that matter...

Sangha Night Talk From Satyajyoti - 'Dhammadinna'

From Sheffield Buddhist Centre on Wed, 16 Oct, 2024 - 00:00
Buddhist history abounds with teachers who led inspiring lives and shed new light on the Dharma, bringing it alive for the times and societies in which they lived. In this series we will be looking at a selection of these figures from the Triratna Refuge Tree, exploring how we can bring elements of their approach into our own practice to make it more vivid and effective. How do we move towards enlightenment? As part of our series on Great Teachers, Satyajyoti will explore the teachings of Dhammadinna, arahant and nun, who was alive at the time of the Buddha. We'll hear a bit about her life story and about her teaching of the natural process of how our hearts and minds open to reality.
