Triratna Anywhere is a new way to encourage and support anyone anywhere in the world to become fully part of the worldwide Triratna Buddhist Community. You can do this by starting to study, practice, and live Buddhism - and this project is all about developing ways for you (and anyone anywhere!) to do this on your own, or with your friends, or by starting your own local Triratna Buddhist group! We're doing this by pulling together some of the online resources available on The Buddhist Centre Online as well as logging on ourselves for some online communication.
To get going, we suggest you download one of the guided meditations below, sit somewhere quiet, and press “play”. In no time you will have introduced yourself to meditation! Using these guided meditations is a good way to get started for anyone who can’t make it to a Triratna Centre. Then if you like it you can invite someone you know to join you and meditate together. Then someone else - and before you know it, you'll have a group…! You can do this as much or as little as you want, when and where you like. Don't worry too much about posture to start with, the main thing is to be comfortable, a reclining chair is good for allowing you to fully relax.
Here's our suggested meditations to start with -
Change Your Mind - Body Awareness And Relaxation by Paramananda
The Mindfulness of Breathing: Introduction and Guidance by Kamalashila
Metta Bhavana - Introduction and Basic Tools by Kamalashila
And when you're ready - here's a more in-depth introduction to our basic approach to meditation
Recent additions to the project are a worldwide online meditation every Thursday, a worldwide map of who's where (email here to add your photo!), a multi-language Translation Project, and even a GPS-enabled Meditation Timer app for smartphones! At the moment this is all experimental and we are still in the trial stage. If you want to be part of it here's what we suggest - try the meditation, upload a photo (of yourself meditating, maybe?), invite a friend or two, and leave a comment below to tell us how it went… You can also email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. We look forward to welcoming you to the Triratna Buddhist Community.
First of all though - do check you're not already near one of the many Triratna Buddhist Centres round the world.
