Hi, I wanted to contribute something about actions to encourage veganism as part of BAM.  I’ve been vegan since I was 16 and am glad to see more awareness of veganism.  I also think its quite important and responsible, if we’re encouraging people to try veganism, to provide good nutritional information alongside that suggestion, particularly about essential nutrients like B12.  For example, its very easy to take a weekly sublingual B12 supplement to keep healthy levels, and there are good algae based alternatives to fish oils for those who need a high intake of essential fatty acids.  Without this information a person could be put off trying to change to a vegan diet, or could make the change but potentialy be compromising their own health.  As an example of the sort of thing I mean, I’m attaching a link to a short but helpful article that provides reliable nutritional advice about vegan diets:

Fab, thanks for that, Amaladhi. We intend to include information on veganism at our “BAM table” which will hold displays and act as a meeting place over the course of BAM at Sheffield Buddhist Centre. If you have any other sources which summarise in neat, brief, clear points, explaining why veganism is superior to vegetarianism, please let us know. (I’ve been vegan for 3 years but am not up to speed on sources/  literature/ etc.)
