Breaking the Bonds of Selfhood Through Serving the Dhamma (with translation in Hindi)

By Candradasa on Thu, 14 Mar, 2013 - 22:37
Ok, time to tidy up the rest of the rich Dharma material from India and the Order Convention…

To start us off, here is a strong, beautiful talk by Parami from the final day, bringing us back to the task in hand as members of an Order and as Buddhists: engaging with breaking the fetters and weakening the hold that self-clinging exerts upon our minds and our ways of seeing things.

Buddhist Voices: Dassini's Lost Talk on the History of Triratna Women in Scotland

By Candradasa on Tue, 5 Mar, 2013 - 14:41
Since most of the talks from women on the Order Convention weren’t recorded or had technical issues, we thought we’d take the opportunity to recreate as a conversation Dassini’s talk focussing on the history of women practising the Dharma in Scotland. A thoroughly absorbing look at the relationship between the genders in days gone by, and at a landscape and its effect on a Buddhist community in a very particular kind of country…

Recorded at Bodh Gaya, India, March...

Days 5 & 6 Gallery - Part 2: Back at the Three Jewels Centre (more sad talks news)

By Candradasa on Tue, 5 Mar, 2013 - 13:09
Days of great talks but, alas, some more problems with the PA (crazy distortion) means we can’t bring you Yashosagar’s, at least for now. We will have Paramabandhu’s though, just as soon as ever we can… :)

Days 5 & 6 Gallery - Part 1: At the Mahabodhi Temple

By Candradasa on Tue, 5 Mar, 2013 - 12:53
Days 5 & 6 were pretty full. Here are some shots from the half of one day when the men were doing some reflection at the Mahabodhi Temple (our Dharmacharis alternated venues with our Dharmacharinis for two days of ‘single sex’ conventions)…

Saddhaloka - Tales From the Pali Canon Around Receptivity

By Candradasa on Tue, 5 Mar, 2013 - 12:33
Saddhaloka in great form under the Bodhi Tree, setting us up for a morning of reflection on the men’s convention (day 5!) by telling stories from some of the oldest Buddhist sutras. Famous tales like Meghiya meet less well-known ones (the tale of ‘Contradictor’!) and a picture emerges of the Buddha meeting all-comers and finding a way to speak that allowed their hearts to open…

In English with Hindi translation.

Recorded at Bodh Gaya, 28th February 2013

Buddhist Voices from India - A Discussion with Kalyanadharini and Vidyadharini

By Candradasa on Tue, 5 Mar, 2013 - 10:46
Another ‘Buddhist Voices’ episode from the end of the Triratna Buddhist Order Convention 2013 at Bodh Gaya in India. A pretty fantastic discussion with two ‘dharinis’ - young, inspired Indian Dharmacharinis who speak boldly about the challenges faced by women practising the Dharma in India.

A wonderful conversation too around issues of leadership and taking one’s place in the sangha in order to come alive and help others. Very exciting listening!

Recorded at Bodh Gaya, India,...

Buddhist Voices from India - Jnanasuri Interview

By Candradasa on Tue, 5 Mar, 2013 - 07:20
As part of our ‘Buddhist Voices’ series we’re delighted to present this extended interview with Dharmacharini Jnanasuri, one of the very first Indian women to be ordained into the Triratna Buddhist Order and a pioneering Dharma worker for many years, before and since joining our community.

The interview focusses initially on the historic mass conversion to Buddhism in 1956 by the Scheduled Caste people of Maharashtra, conducted by their great leader Dr. Ambedkar...
