Our Breathing Body
Sunday 2 May to Saturday 8 May
It is hard to overstate the importance of the breath within Buddhist meditation. It provides the ‘object’ most often used for the strengthening and purifying of our reflective consciousness. In addition, it provides a felt experience of inter penetration of all life – without such an experience ‘enlightenment is impossible.
The breath is the thread that stitches our life together. Its centrality in energetic psycho-physical work such as meditation is testified to in nearly all spiritual traditions. Both posture and imagination lean heavily on an intimacy with our own breath. How different would the world would be now if Descartes had concluded ‘I breath therefore I am’?
