Explore how the disciplines of mindfulness and drawing complement each other and how approaching both in a spirit of play can be enriching and freeing. In this afternoon Retreat you will be introduced to mindful drawing, mindfulness practices and a series of guided drawing exercises.
Mindfulness gives us opportunity to engage with experience directly, free from assumptions, preferences, and expectations. It supports the qualities of openness and clarity as well as an appreciation of life. This openness can lead us to new ways of perceiving our everyday experience which can be interesting, even fascinating, and freeing.
This event is suitable for complete beginners to drawing and mindfulness as well as those with experience in either/both disciplines who’d like to explore their practice in a new way. All you need is a biro pen and the back of three envelopes!, a mirror and a photograph of someone you love. If you have other drawing materials e.g. pencils, paper, pencil sharpener, eraser, charcoal, then bring them too!
Amitajyoti has been practising mindfulness for 26 years and was ordained into Triratna Buddhist Order 16 years ago. She is an artist trained to MA level and has been teaching drawing and mindfulness for beginners as well as experienced practitioners for over 15 years, in a variety of locations including our Triratna Centres, The National Gallery, British Museum and the City Literary Institute www.cbarton-harvey.co.uk
