Introduction to Buddhism and Meditation.
4 Tuesday evenings, May 2nd - May 23rd. 7.15 - 9.30pm.
The experience developed within the Buddhist tradition over thousands of years has created an incomparable resource for all those who wish to improve the quality of their lives and follow a path towards human fulfilment — a path which ultimately culminates in Enlightenment or Buddhahood. Our courses teach you two Buddhist meditation practices - The Mindfulness of Breathing and the Metta Bhavana (the cultivation of loving-kindness) and the fundamental tenets of Buddhist teaching: nothing is fixed or permanent; actions have consequences; change is possible: as well as exploring how the teachings can help you uncover more value and meaning in your life today.
This 4-week course (May 2nd - May 23rd) will focus on the Buddha’s teaching of the Four Noble Truths: the truth of suffering or unsatisfactoriness; the truth of the cause of suffering, which is neurotic desire; the cessation of suffering, cessation being the equivalent of Enlightenment; and the way leading to the cessation of suffering, which is the Noble Eightfold Path.
Our courses are run on a donation basis so we can uphold the principle of generosity. So although we request a donation to cover expenses and fund the purchase of meditation cushions etc., we do not wish to exclude those who may be short of money. The suggested donation is £7 per week. Please only book if you can attend all 4 evenings.
