Joining the Triratna Buddhist Order
In time, many people ask to join the Triratna Buddhist Order. The Order is Triratna’s core – a thriving spiritual community with over 2,500 members who are dedicated to living ethically, practising effectively and working harmoniously.
When someone asks to join the Order they start a training process that helps them deepen their Dharma practice, understand Triratna and its teachings more fully, and make connections with Order members and others who have asked to be ordained. The training period lasts for a number of years – it varies from person to person.
People who have asked for ordination usually ask two experienced Order members to be their kalyana mitras, or spiritual friends, who support them as they move towards ordination. Another experienced Order member becomes the preceptor who eventually conducts their private ordination.
Several thousand people have asked to join the Triratna Buddhist Order and are currently training for ordination. Of these, 1,500 people are in India and the Sudarshan Bhoomi Dhamma Training Centre is being developed near Nagpur as a base.
In Europe and the UK Tiratanaloka runs ordination training retreats for women and Padmaloka runs them for men.
Akashavana Retreat Centre in Spain is dedicated to ordination retreats for women.
Guhyaloka Retreat Centre, also in Spain, is dedicated to ordination retreats for men.
Other ordination and ordination training retreats take place around the world, from Vijayaloka in Australia and Sudarshanaloka in New Zealand, to Chintamani in Mexico and Aryaloka in the USA.
