What to expect from this Home Retreat (click to read)

Home Retreats can be tailored to your needs during the pandemic. See below for an important note about the intention behind our approach to this retreat.

We provide:

  • Daily live practice sessions and specially recorded teachings
  • Related Dharma resources
  • Support, perspective and inspiration from our team online during the live retreat
  • A chance to connect with the retreat leader to ask questions about your practice.

Whether you have the time to engage with a full-on, urban-retreat style week at home – or are super occupied already with kids or work and just want some useful structure to book-end your days with a little calm and inspiration: this is for you.

***

We’re trying something different for this first home retreat of 2021. We hope you can make it work for you in some way that fits your particular circumstances.

We still have plenty of advance daily content available: you can listen to Paramananda’s introductory podcast and, throughout the week, his full series of talks on the material behind this retreat.

What’s new for The Alchemical Heart, is that we’ll have two extended daily sessions of live practice. We’ve tried to set things up so that it works both for Paramananda in his location (London, UK) and people who want to attend around the world. You should find at least one session that works with your time zone, wherever you are!

1. Ideally, attendees who have more time available would come to both sessions (where that’s possible). They are not conceived of as simple repeats.

2. At the same time, the whole point of Home Retreats is to offer flexible models for intensive practice that can be tailored to your needs. We recognize that some people – for childcare, work, time zone or other reasons – may have to come to one or other session, or mix and match. That’s fine. The sessions will build up the retreat day by day, but you should be able to come to either one in a given day and still get a lot out of it.

3. Finally, for those who can’t make it to the live sessions at all, we’ll be posting the videos very soon after they finish, so anyone who needs to can do the retreat in their own time. As usual we’ll finish up with a live Q & A session with Paramananda and we hope as many of you as possible can come to that and connect with your fellow meditators and retreatants! (If not, don’t worry, we’ll share that session online too.)

This online retreat tailored for home practice offers an experiential approach to meditation, with an emphasis on the relationship between our bodies and our imagination.

We will draw on images and ideas within both the Buddhist tradition and those of the western alchemical tradition. In particular we will investigate how an imaginative engagement with our ‘hearts’ can support a rich and sustaining practice of meditation that draws us into intimacy both with ourselves and with the world. A chance to look on our own experience as the true ‘gold’ within reach at any moment.

Paramananda has been teaching meditation for over 35 years and is well known for his body-based, poetic approach. He has published a number of books on meditation including ‘Change Your Mind’ and, most recently, ‘The Myth of Meditation’.

We hope you found the Home Retreat helpful.
As we all take care of each other through this extraordinary time we are committed to staying online with you for as long as it takes – and beyond.

If you can, donate and help us reach more people like you.

Thank you from our team and from the online community around the world!

May you be well!

To all of you at The Buddhist Centre Online, please accept this gift of £1,000 from Adhisthana. It’s just a small token of our appreciation of all that your team is doing right now in these extraordinary times. You’ve managed to respond very quickly to the Covid19 situation, creating online resources for the Triratna community and whoever else may be looking for a sense of meaning and support during this phase.

You’ve also given our worldwide community a chance to meet collectively: listening to your podcasts, watching your live events, etc. I have certainly felt I was participating in something much larger than just my personal lockdown space. So, thank you! I’m also aware that it takes a lot of time to create these connections and resources, and I feel very appreciative of the time-pressure and the extra effort it is demanding of you all.
