Preserving Urgyen Sangharakshita's Legacy

‘Sangharakshita as Mythophanic Psychopomp’ by Aloka.

Each year we send a report to all our donors – you can download our last six years’ donor reports here.

Thank you for supporting Bhante and his care team during his life-time; how Uddiyana’s work continues

Very many thanks to all who have given generous support over the years to Triratna Buddhist Community (Uddiyana) which enabled us to give Bhante all that he needed in the last years of his life. As you can read in our 2018 Annual Newsletter to view here online or as a downloadable PDF, the last year or so was the most active of Bhante’s more than five years at Adhisthana. In Paramartha’s interview with Bhante, which you will find in the newsletter, you will read that he had received more than four hundred visitors in the last year. He had also been out and about at Adhisthana more than ever before, visiting various events, large and small. You’ll find photographs of several of these occasions.

Indeed in April this year, Bhante wrote: ‘….my carers now do for me many of the things that I no longer have the strength to do myself. They do them willingly, even joyfully, which has helped to make the last year or more one of the happiest periods of my life.’ It is thanks to all the generous donors to Uddiyana that this level of support was possible.

Following Bhante’s death on 30th October, Uddiyana is not winding down as there is still much work to do for the foreseeable future to preserve his legacy. This includes the considerable work required to put in order and look after the extensive physical legacy left to us by Bhante: correspondence, diaries, literary papers, audio, photo, video and many artefacts too. Some of this work will require substantial funding.

So we have asked all our current supporters, if in a position to do so, to consider continuing support to Uddiyana at least for another year, during which time our Trustees will make detailed plans for the future funding role of Uddiyana. In a similar way, we will very much welcome new supporters, and details of how to join can be found by scrolling down below.
