Happiness can be attained either when existence accords with our desires, or when our desires are in harmony with existence. True, the second alternative is difficult; but the first is impossible… Happiness comes only when we desire and are attached to - nothing. And that happiness is eternal.

The spiritual community encourages freedom of thought. But this is not all. The defining principle of the spiritual community, as opposed to the group’s insistence on conformity, is more than simply freedom of thought, important as that freedom may be. It is freedom to grow.

Buddhism cannot be identified with any one individual formulation, much less with any one individual school or sect. The Buddha's teaching or message can only be identified with that spirit of liberation, of freedom from conditionedness, just as the taste of salt pervades all the waters of the ocean.
