In one way or another, Sangharakshita’s spiritual genius has been the sheet anchor throughout the storm of my own deviating spiritual aspirations and divagations. More often than not, in the middle of any particular struggle for understanding, his was the aesthetic and moral compass which I depended on for a true reading of the way out of the labyrinth; his star the brilliant Sirius on a dark night; his, the lodestone that attracted the light of clarity. My gratitude to him is unrepayable. In this I am a happy debtor - and hope to remain so in lives to come. On hearing yesterday’s announcement I wrote the attached, very simple poem by way of an initial expression of this indebtedness. Safe journey, Bhante. Om Shantih. Shantih. Shantih.

Deepest respects to a teacher whose words and ceaseless endeavour changed the lives of so many. I believe that in many ways, he literally brought the Dharma to thousands who might never have been able to experience the supreme joys of it otherwise. Those quiet, magical times of listening to his lectures on FBA (as many as possible!) were quite literally the biggest, single influx of true and life-changing knowledge, Dharma, personally ever experienced. Deepest thanks, deepest reverence, to Bhante Sangharakshita.

There were tears in my eyes when I read about the mahaparinirvana of my spiritual hero; the most Venerable Bhante Sangharakshita. In my vision he was an enlightened man with an unbeatable spiritual intellect . The memories of those days flash on the screen of my heart, when he came to India for propagating the Dhamma revolution steered by Dr. Ambedkar. I remember the way my people surrounded the window of the train coach in which he was seated, with garlands in their hands, bowing down to him with all devotion. Raising slogans like “Sangharakshitansa Vijayaso”, meaning “victory to Sangharakshita”. We the Buddhists of India will work very hard for the propagation of the dharma steered by Babasaheb and led by you Bhante ji… You will always be with us…. May all blessings be yours…. Namo Buddhaya. Jai Bhim. Jai Sangharakshita.

MANY WERE THE FRIENDS… (extract from Sangharashitas Poems)

……In the lone garden of my dreams, beneath the wide spreading branches of the Tree of Life,

I wait for the…

While youth comes and goes, while manhood waxes and wanes as the moon,

In the midst of the worlds tumult, and in the deep silence of my heart,

Through life and through death, through the birth and dissolution of millions of universes, eternally

I wait for the…

Deepest respect to Bhante from my bottom of my heart. Bhante’s dhamma teaching touched our mind and heart and transformed our life as true buddhist.

After death of Dr. Ambedkar,no one was to guide to newly converted Indian Buddhist. Bhante who truly understand Babasaheb ambedkar guide and teaches dhamma to us.

Hi everyone. Just a note to say that we’ve had to do some tidying up of the space this morning and have moved this comment thread from the information post about funeral arrangements to be its own standalone post as part of the remembrance page. Thanks for sharing your beautiful, poetic responses to Bhante!
