Parami, Lokeshvara and Saddhaloka In Conversation

Posted by parami on Sat, 18 Mar, 2017 - 15:08

A new podcast from some members of the Adhisthana Kula as they come to the end of a 10-day meeting of the College.

A great little summary of some of the more general issues discussed, including those arising from historical controversies in Triratna (formerly the FWBO). We get a little taster of other conversations to come - with news of new media, and of prospective reconciliation possibilities within the wider community.

What emerges is a picture of the College at a...

Dhammadinna’s reflections on her many years of living in Triratna communities

Posted by Saccanama on Thu, 2 Feb, 2017 - 16:14

I live in Samayakula community, along with eleven other women, in two adjoining houses, near the London Buddhist Centre.  We have not long come back together after the mid-winter/new year break.  Some of us have been on the LBC winter retreats and returned with many stories to tell. Others have been to visit family, or stayed at home in the community.  On our first community evening of the New Year we launched our ‘rainy season light’ for the month...

Maitreyi writes about life at Tiratanaloka

Posted by Saccanama on Thu, 2 Feb, 2017 - 15:48

This time of year at Tiratanaloka is quite magical; we’ve had days of hard frost and bright sunshine, and today, driving into Brecon with Kalyacitta for a swim, a huge arc of a rainbow, its colours pale and muted against the rainclouds, cast an otherworldly light on the green hills.

There’s a post-ordination retreat taking place in the Retreat Centre currently; twelve dharmacharinis who were ordained at Akashavana last summer. At this end of the building in the community, a few of...

Preceptors' College Letter to the Order

Posted by Saccanama on Wed, 18 Jan, 2017 - 19:23

Dear brothers and sisters in the Order,

On 31st December 2016 Bhante released a personal statement to all Order members via the Order Information Service. I am speaking on behalf of all Public Preceptors when I say how glad we are that Bhante has felt able to make this statement and how much we welcome the confessional nature of the contents. I believe it will contribute to the further integration of some of the more complex and problematic aspects of...

Statement about sex between preceptors and those they ordain from the Preceptors' College

Posted by Saccanama on Mon, 9 Jan, 2017 - 12:48

Below is a statement from the Preceptors’ College making clear our position on sex between preceptors and those they ordain.

In response to the current discussions about our history, we in the College of Public Preceptors wish to state clearly our position on sexual relations between Preceptors and those they ordain. Recognising the difficulties that have arisen in the past, it has long been our position that sexual contact between teachers and their students is undesirable.

Such contact is more...

Kulas of the Preceptors' College

Posted by Saccanama on Mon, 5 Dec, 2016 - 15:21

The College meets twice a year. As part of those meetings they spend time in smaller ‘kula’ or working groups, to focus on and discuss people who are being proposed for Ordination, other matters related to the Ordination process in the areas they are responsible for, private preceptor consultations and their own practice as public preceptors.

At present there are 6 kulas:

Men’s Adhisthana kula - Sona, Dhammarati, Mahamati, Buddhadasa, Nagabodhi, Kamalashila, Purna, Saddhaloka

Men’s Padmaloka kula - Padmavajra, Surata, Maitreyabandhu, Moksananda, Satyaraja, Arthapriya, Paramabandhu, Amogharatna

Indian kula - Chandrasil, Subhuti,...
