Chairs' Letter – January 2020

Thu, 23 Jan, 2020 - 11:10

Dear Order Members,

It’s been interesting to look back over my first two months as College Chair, as well as starting to get a perspective on the next five years.

Actually my reflections go back to November 2018, when Bhante Sangharakshita had just died and his funeral coincided with the College meeting during which I was asked to become future Chair of the College. It was deeply significant to be at Adhisthana as we moved beyond the lifetime of the founder of our Order,...

Hi Akasajyoti,

Thanks for this very helpful and informative update!

I’m pleased to hear of the newfound emphasis on:

“….to liaise with other Order members worldwide….
….to work with other Order members to explore ways in which our organisational structures and lines of communication might be improved….
…initiate an exploration of ways in which to create fora for meaningful participation and contribution that would support effective decision-making and communication……”

in particular with regard to

“…we need to clarify, define and communicate the appropriate pathways for expressing and addressing issues…

Given that the college is sometimes criticised for ‘talking to type’ and a ’lack of diversity of approach’ I would be curious to hear how these aspirations are going to be implemented?

Thanks for the update.
I am looking forward to seeing how the communication channels will operate.

Triratna's Panel Process and Safeguarding - Questions and Answers (Part 2)

Thu, 23 May, 2019 - 18:07

Read Part 1 of this Q & A series

Preface
Members of the Ethics Kula respond here to some of your questions about the Panel Process and Safeguarding. Please remember that the Ethics Kula, which includes the Safeguarding team, are Order members giving their time to try and resolve some very difficult situations that arise in our community, and the Kula certainly does not see itself as some sort of final authority on all ethical matters.

College of Public Preceptors – ‘At Home for Visitors’

Thu, 21 Mar, 2019 - 16:16

Is there anything you would really like to talk through with a Public Preceptor? As an experiment, Saddhaloka and Ratnadharini have posted dates below when they will each be available at Adhisthana to meet with people, individually or small groups, who would like an opportunity to talk with them in person. There is a lot of information online these days, but we also really appreciate being able to meet people directly.

You might like to ask us about the College itself, or...

Is there possibility for virtual meetings for people who live outside commuting distance? I know meeting virtually isn’t the same as meeting in person, but a lot of people really cannot get to Adhisthana for geographical or financial reasons.

From Saddhaloka:

Dear Shrijnana,

Many thanks for your inquiry. Ratnadharini and I sympathise and understand very well that not everyone can get go Adhisthana. Our ‘At Home for Visitors’ in April is an experiment, and we want to start off with just a couple of weekends meeting face-to-face and see how that goes.  Also, at present WiFi at Adhisthana can be very unreliable and frustrating. After this summer we hope to have fibre optic cable working and a much more reliable WiFi that will open up many more possibilities.

Warm thoughts,

Saddhaloka

Thank you, Saddhaloka. I look forward to hearing about the results of the experiment and the new possibilities that will arise with better wifi.

Ordination at Adhisthana

Mon, 4 Mar, 2019 - 10:51

Dear friends,

I am very happy to announce the public ordination of ex Helen Rey from the Seattle Sangha at Adhisthana today 28th February 2019.

Helen becomes Prasadadhi (long second’a’ and long ‘i’), a Sanskrit name meaning She whose Wisdom is clear, bright, pure.

Western spelling Prasadadhi.

I was both Private and Public Preceptor.

With metta,
