Dharmachari Purna is a senior member of the Order from New Zealand who has just recently been appointed as a public preceptor. He was ordained in 1975 during the course of Sangharakshita’s first visit to New Zealand. His varied Order life has seen him living for periods in the UK, India and New Zealand. In Bethnal Green in London in the late 1970’s he lived and worked in the burnt out shell of the old fire station that was subsequently opened as the LBC. In India, in the early 1980’s, he lived as an anagarika for three years and worked closely with Lokamitra with the early setup of the Movement there. He now lives in Auckland, on Waiheke Island - a suburb separated from the mainland by a short ferry ride. He has been New Zealand Men’s Order Convenor since 2001. He currently works with the South Pacific Men’s Going for Refuge team running retreats in both Australia and New Zealand. He has been a private preceptor since 2005.
