With great sadness we inform you of the passing away of Urgyen Sangharakshita today 30 October 2018 at approximately 10.00 a.m. in Hereford Hospital. As informed
In 1956 Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, the leader of the Indian Dalits (ex-Untouchables,) converted to Buddhism and started a movement that is transforming Indian society. Although the revival of the Dharma in the Buddha’s homeland is largely unknown outside of India, millions of Indian Buddhists are trying to change their lives by adopting the values and teachings of the Buddha. Their struggle casts light on the nature of the Dharma as a universal path to...
Here in Portsmouth we’re spending Fall and early Winter exploring Spiritual Receptivity as part of our year-long exploration of what it means to have a rounded approach to the Dharma – and how we might live more in alignment with it. It’s been sweet as an apple to sit each week with our experience, cooling off after the heat of summer. And now it’s time to start to mulch down with the many-colored leaves that have blown our way...
Sunday, September 23, 9.30am-12pm This week we will continue our exploration of Spiritual Receptivity as part of our new season for fall at the PBC. Shraddhavani is our host and guide this week as we approach the whole practice of spiritual openness from a different angle. So often we speak of training our...
Have you ever wanted to change your life? Maybe in small ways, maybe in big ones?
Learning or refreshing your acquaintance with the ancient, tried-and-tested techniques of Buddhist meditation is like walking through a portal into change of your own making. A certain magic is there to be found and engaged with - at your own pace, wherever you are starting out from.
Come and join us for a new short fall course of classes...
Our next introductory course will be a short, beautifully weighted series facilitated by Narottama. It will continue each Wednesday through July 25th. Please join us for any or all of these sessions. Treat your heart this month!
We will be focusing on key teachings and meditation practices passed down through millennia within the Buddhist tradition. Participants will learn everything they need to begin a regular meditation practice or set their existing practice in a deeper context.
Gather as usual at PPMTV, we’ll take cushions and chairs and make our way around 9.45am to Prescott Park to meditate by 10. Rain days, we’ll stay inside!
In Spring 2017 we lost our Buddhist Center to a fire. Thanks to the great generosity and hard work of lots of people, the community recovered, deepened and strengthened. And we’ve gone on together since, renewing the Portsmouth sangha in some beautiful ways here in town.
Join us for an epic Dharma Day puja that will invite us to pay homage to the Dharma as it has arisen through time. The program will be a ritualized journey through the Three Yanas. We’ll begin with stories from the Pali Canon, followed by readings on the Six Paramitas and culminating in meeting the Buddha’s and Bodhisattvas whose mantras we chant to close the sevenfold puja.
The morning program will be followed by a Regional Sangha...
Our regular Sangha Gathering this week, Sunday, June 3, will be cancelled as there will be a memorial service at 11 am that morning for Bodhana, a local Order Member who passed away a few weeks ago. All who knew Bodhana are invited to attend. Written remembrances will be collected and compiled into a memory book. Details on this and the service are available here:
