May 6th - June 24th, Sundays 9.30am-12pm “…in shining, glowing, beaming and radiance, the release of mind by universal friendliness far excels and surpasses… all worldly merit.”
This year at Portsmouth Buddhist Center we’re following the seasons as a model for how to move through the different stages of a spiritual life. We’ve embraced the quiet beauties of the winter of things, then woken to spring and the idea of new life for the mind. Now as the days warm and the skies clear, we invite you to join us in the first flush of summer for our new series on the four beautiful meditation practices the Buddha recommends to anyone who wishes to find happiness in a complicated world.
Come and sit with us each week, let the sun shine down and take the time to explore and go deeper into what matters most in the living of a good life. You’ll be in good company!
This Sunday, May 6th 9:30am-12pm, Loving Kindness (Metta) As a mother even with own life protects her only child, so should one cultivate immeasurable loving-kindness towards all living beings. We’ll begin our new summer series by spending a couple of weeks with one of the most important emotions we can work on as people looking to live life well and in harmony with our families, friends and community: metta, often translated simply as “loving kindness”. Metta is sometimes described as “blazing like the sun”, strong enough to melt the most frozen pains of our heart and give rise to a garden in the mind.
Join Narottama to renew with patience and steady support your own practice of friendliness and care in this new season.
Offered by donation, $10 to $5 suggested.
