Things are getting exciting for Valencia Buddhist Centre, Spain: they’re buying Triratna’s Spanish sangha’s first-ever retreat centre. Moksananda’s video gives a good impression of its flavour (4-minutes).

Puzzled? Haven’t we already got two Spanish retreat centres, Akashavana and Guhyaloka? Yes, but they’re owned by British charities and their retreats - international and largely English-speaking - are for the Order or are closed ordination retreats. This one will be owned and run by Spanish people, in Spanish for the Spanish Order and Movement more generally.

Amalamati is the Chair of the Valencia centre. He writes:

“We are raising €450.000 to buy a property in the lovely area of Jérica in the province of Castellón. It’s set in 35 acres of lovely countryside. There are olive, almond, pomegranate and cherry trees, as well as pine woods and lavender fields. It is a really delightful spot within easy access of Valencia. The properties themselves are in such excellent condition that we’ll be able to start organising retreats and other activities there as soon as we buy the place, very soon.

This is a major step for the Order and Movement in Spain; a wonderful opportunity for us to really grow our community and deepen the Triratna presence on the Iberian Peninsula. We have sanghas in Valencia, Barcelona and Madrid, but, as yet, no national retreat centre where we can gather for Order or Movement events.

A mythic realm
Having our own retreat centre will enable us to make real our vision of creating a mythic realm in the midst of this beautiful Mediterranean environment, in which the Dharma, as communicated by Sangharakshita, can be experienced and transmitted.

This project will create marvellous opportunities for community living. Given the land and the abundance of water there are also many possibilities for establishing a right livelihood business based around the olive, lavender and almond harvests.

Donations welcome
We need money in order to buy the property and then build a shrineroom.

Hi Martin, thank you. Definitely some gremlins here as they both worked fine when I tested them before publication! I’ve sorted them out now - and I hope they remain sorted out while my back is turned! Metta, Munisha

The Triodos BIC number is not recognised by my bank - could you check and confirm? Thanks Khemajoti

Amalamati wrote recently:

Dear friends,

I hope you are all well and that things are going smoothly at your respective centres.
I’m writing to let you know that on Friday we signed the purchase for the new retreat centre. So we are starting activities with a GFR retreat next Saturday.
We are of course thrilled. I am completely exhausted but relieved.

I just a wanted to thank you all for being so supportive of the project. It has been fantastic, feeling the shared enthusiasm and excitement for our project. So thank you. And many, many thanks to all those of you who were able to make a contribution. It has made an enormous difference.

We have raised close to 80.000€ in 3 months (with the rest coming in loans from various sources), which is marvellous.

We are still fundraising, because we now enter phase two, which is building a shrineroom. So it’s not too late to make a donation!

Much love to all, Amalamati
