Dharmachari Devapriya died peacefully in hospital in London on Thursday November 1st at noon. He was ordained by Sangharakshita in 1981 and had played a significant part in many aspects of the Triratna Buddhist Community for over three decades, especially in establishing the very successful ‘Dharma Parents’ retreats for families and children at Buddhafield and elsewhere.
His old friends Paul Boyce, Annie Munro, Rehana, Carl Davies, Kamalashila, Satyajit, Yashobodhi, and Rosie, plus his sister Akasacitta, were with him when he died, chanting his mantra OMTARETUTTARETURESVAHA. He had been in hospital for a month with pneumonia and severe physical pain.
An ‘Album of Rejoicing’ in Devapriya has been created and can be viewed online or purchased as a hardback book - many thanks to all who contributed so quickly! It had been hoped to present him with this in hospital but sadly it was not ready in time.
In addition, an ‘In Memoriam’ page has been created on the JustGiving website to fundraise for one of his last wishes - the creation of a 30’ Yurt for the Buddhafield Village Retreat. If you would like to contribute please visit www.justgiving.com/devapriya.
The funeral will be held on Friday November 9th in London; please look at Devapriya’s Facebook profile for further details or to contribute to the Album of Rejoicing.
