Bodhisattva Ideal Mitratas

Thu, 28 Feb, 2019 - 19:29

Hi all.

A few years ago Ksantivadin and I digitalised all of Bhante’s old Mitrata booklets on The Bodhisattva Ideal lecture series.

There are eight lectures in the original series, and eight pairs of Mitratas in the series. The first of each pair contains a lightly edited version of the talk and often some seminar extracts, and then the second of each pair is just seminar extracts.

(By seminars extracts I mean extracts taken from study seminars lead by Bhante on those particular Bodhisattva Ideal lectures.)

All the...

Well, thank you very much from the bottom of my heart and from a few other mitras I know! I think it has been long due to bring back to mitra study the “original” Bhante lectures as much as possible. It is my experience through the years that mitra study has become increasingly watered down, masticated and digested by interpretations of interpretations of what Bhante, very clearly and thoroughly via tapes and books. I welcome the resurrection of Bhante’s translations and interpretation!!!

Sangharakshita and the Shadow of the Past by Vishvapani

Mon, 27 Feb, 2017 - 19:01

A strong, moving, nuanced set of perspectives from Vishvapani on areas of historical controversy in the FWBO/Triratna, especially those involving our founder, Sangharakshita.

The talk spans Vishvapani’s long involvement with the community in both its light and “shadow” aspects - from first coming across the Dharma in Croydon, UK, at the age of 14 in the 1980s until the present day. It is in many ways a timely look at the past and the present, rooted in the...

Thank you for sharing Vishvapani’s talk, Candradasa. I also found it extremely moving. It is humbling and helpful to hear about the personal paths that Order Members with so much knowledge and experience have taken in negotiating the complexities of Triratna’s history. I’m going to share this with some folks in my local Sangha who I think might appreciate it too.

Hi Emily. Thank you for posting your response - it’s really encouraging. If the local Sangha want more information here is a good place to start for resources https://thebuddhistcentre.com/news/responding-triratna-controversy and the kula at Adhisthana have just released an introduction https://thebuddhistcentre.com/adhisthana-kula/introducing-adhisthana-kula

Wishing you well,

Charlotte

Thank you Vishvapani for your wise reflections.  I found them extremely helpful, particularly the sharing of your experience on retreat with Bernie Glassman. For me, particularly, the importance of love and kindness being brought to bear at this time shone out from your talk - we are very lucky to have you in the Order.  metta Sara

Hello!  I have just received the Year One book from Lulu.com.  It is not a hardback copy though! It has a white glossy (soft) cover, A4 in size and is the 2016 edition. Do you think Lulu.com may have made a mistake?

Vajrashura's picture

Oops, sorry about that Glen!

It’s not a mistake, they are only in paperback this time. I’ll ammend the original post to reflect this. Apologies again for this, if you’d like your money back let me know and I can try to arrange this.

Hi!  Thanks for your reply.  It is not a problem; I was just curious!  I have not used Lulu.com before and they have done a grand job with the printing and the whole process, from ordering to delivery, took only one week which I think is impressive.  Best wishes and thanks again, Glen.

Great, thanks Glen. Glad you like it.

Metta,
Vajrashura.

Really great to see this news - so much better than printing out individual A4 pages.

Thanks for setting up this space for Mitras, I hope it will help connect us, particularly those Mitras who live in areas remote from any Sangha/Mitra group, a great idea :)

Centre Team's picture

Thanks, Stella! We hope so too! And look out for more resources through the rest of this year.

A very big thank you to all who have worked so hard on updating the Mitra Study.  I was very impressed when I did the first two years while I was in Cambridge with a wonderful Mitra group.  I am looking forward to finishing the course or even starting over again. It is a treasure for those of us who have no centre near by. I now live in Brisbane, Australia and the nearest centre is one and a half hours away.  SADHU!
