Faith for the Climate Network: Speaking out on Climate Change

Thu, 11 Jul, 2019 - 12:03

On 26th June I represented Buddhists at a gathering of the interfaith group, Faith For The Climate Network, which preceded a Mass Lobby of the UK parliament.

Over the last couple of years I have spoken a few times about climate change in my regular Thought for the Day slot on BBC Radio 4. As a result, the co-ordinator of the Faith for the Climate Network invited me to join other faith ‘leaders’...

The Time is Now have written to Triratna, via the Network of Buddhist Organisations UK:

Workshops, an interfaith Walk of Witness, and interfaith Speaker Event are all taking place ahead of the mass lobby itself.

Buddhist Teachers in Europe at Adhisthana

Buddhist Teachers in Europe at Adhisthana

Sat, 20 Oct, 2018 - 21:24

This year’s meeting of the Buddhist Teachers in Europe (BTE) was hosted by Triratna at Adhisthana at the very start of October. Following straight on from the European Buddhist Union meeting it was much smaller: eight to 10 people attended each day, including Sangharakshita. BTE is a chance for informal discussion on topics of current common interest, this year on the topic of ‘Buddhists in Dialogue with European Societies’, taken from the title of a conference held in Berlin in...

European Buddhist Union weekend at Adhisthana

Sat, 20 Oct, 2018 - 18:58

The last weekend in September saw the annual gathering of the European Buddhist Union (EBU), this year hosted by Triratna at Adhisthana. This was followed as always by the annual meeting of the group, Buddhist Teachers in Europe (BTE). Both were enormously successful meetings in terms of the working atmosphere and topics, and people’s enjoyment of each other and their surroundings. (I attend both each year, in my capacity as Triratna’s Liaison officer, looking after...

Triratna Safeguarding talk at the German Buddhist Union

Triratna Safeguarding talk at the German Buddhist Union

Sat, 20 Oct, 2018 - 18:10

I’d like to report briefly on a visit to the German Buddhist Union (DBU) annual meeting in April this year – with apologies for the considerable lateness of this report.

The Diamond Way Sangha, at their wonderful lakeside Europe Centre in Bavaria, were wonderful hosts to around 50 representatives from various Buddhist traditions in Germany, including Triratna’s Vidyagita and Karunada. Their theme being ethics in sanghas, I was invited to address them on the topic...

European Buddhist Union weekend 2017

Tue, 17 Oct, 2017 - 11:14

As the ‘Liaison Officer’ for Triratna’s European Chairs’ Assembly, I’m the person who looks after Triratna’s co-operation with other Buddhist traditions on matters of common interest. As part of this work, each September I attend the AGM weekend of the European Buddhist Union  (EBU) and the meeting of the Buddhist Teachers in Europe. This year both took place at the Benchen Katsang Retreat Centre just west of Warsaw, Poland. Next year will see them...

A visit to the English Sangha Trust

A visit to the English Sangha Trust

Thu, 27 Apr, 2017 - 16:06

It’s been a busy few months with other work but I didn’t want to leave unrecorded an interesting visit to Amaravati Buddhist Monastery in Hertfordshire, UK, last October. Part of the Thai Forest Tradition, it’s run by the English Sangha Trust, who invited Sangharakshita to come back to Britain from India in 1964.

In my capacity as Triratna’s Liaison Officer, looking after Triratna’s co-operation with other Buddhist traditions in Europe, Sangharakshita had asked...
