Triratna is a longstanding member of the European Buddhist Union (EBU) and as Triratna’s Liaison officer I have attended its annual meetings since 2012. Held on the last weekend of September every year, they’re hosted by one or other of the member organisations, often in retreat centres. 2018 saw them at Adhisthana.

This year we met at Istituto Lama Tsong Khapa in Tuscany, Italy, a centre run by the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana (FPMT), with half of the participants attending online.

The EBU’s capacity has been greatly increased in the last year by grants from the European Commission and the Italian Buddhist Union, enabling it to pay for part time staff to pursue its work of raising the profile and contribution of Buddhism in European institutions. Listed below are the many projects which reported on their work.

The EBU also holds conferences. The next conference will be 22-24 April 2022 in Nantes, France on the topic: “Buddhism in Europe: Unity in Diversity”
