One week ago today, we asked for your support in our largest appeal ever. Your answer was extraordinary.

In that short time, you have already raised nearly £30,000 to support those most affected by the coronavirus crisis in India and Nepal.

Thank you so much for the donations and for spreading the word.

These donations are already making a difference. In the photo is Varsha, who has participated in one of our women’s leadership and livelihood projects.

She has learnt tailoring and entrepreneurial skills with us and, in response to the coronavirus crisis, she used that acumen to produce masks and medical aprons for local distributors to pass on to the community.

Varsha is now leading a cooperative of around 70 women from the women’s group all producing these vital items. Each woman is generating an income in these challenging times which will help their families and their own status within their home and communities.

The project leader Abhayanavita says:

This is a great achievement for Varsha and the women’s group. Not only are her leadership qualities shining but it also enables the women to continue earning. So many other income opportunities are closed in this time of crisis; but their business is thriving and contributing to the safety and prevention of the pandemic.

Thousands more women like Varsha are seeking support and stability in these incredibly challenging times. As you will have seen on the news, the situation for people in India is worsening daily. They still desperately need your support on this urgent appeal, so if you haven’t donated yet and can, please go to www.karuna.org/coronavirus-crisis and get involved — and pass the link on to whomever you can.

Thank you.
