Buddhist Voices: Abhayadana - Giving the Gift of Fearlessness to Women in India

Mon, 9 Sep, 2019 - 13:01

A great conversation with the quietly brilliant Abhayadana about her Buddhist work and practice in India. Her name means ‘Giver of Fearlessness’ - and this is something she has dedicated her life to, helping support and free women in her community from the stigma of social caste and the violence that often goes with it.

We hear about her personal approach via meditation and reflection on the Buddhist figure of Kshitigarbha (Jizo) who descends into hell realms to liberate suffering beings. And...

The 6th Triratna International Council is in full swing in England this week. Folk from around the world converging on beautiful rural Herefordshire to explore the work of making sure our community is united and available to all in the years ahead.

We’re joined by our friends from New Zealand and Australia for a check-in around their take on the week and the relevance of international perspectives to their own communities and their experience of the Dharma life back home. Inspiring to...

Thanks Candradasa ET al,

Just listened to this over breakfast.   Heartwarming,  sitting under the great tree together.  I like that image.   The IC sounding now as though it is really having effect and focus cross continents and beyond just the delegates to and from those ‘back home’.   Enjoy the rest of the meeting.    Padmasuri.

Great podcast and wonderful to hear how it’s all going. Real sense comes across of what the International Council’s role is and could be in Triratna going forward. And very eloquently explained by all. Sadhu.

Lovely to listen to my Aussie and New Zealand mates on this fine spring morning in Melbourne. Thank you Candradasa for the work you do to connect so many of us in far flung places into inspiring events like the IC.

A great podcast.  The New Zealand & Australia team communicate well what the International Council’s role is and could be. Loved the image of sitting under a tree together. Thanks Chandradasa for recording this.

Aryajaya - Sangharakshita’s First Connection with His Teachers and Receiving Practices (Triratna International Council 2019)

Tue, 3 Sep, 2019 - 23:36

The second in a series of talks from the 2019 Triratna International Council. This year’s theme is major elements from the Dharma biography of Sangharakshita, Triratna’s founder, which are of wider relevance to anyone endeavouring to lead a Buddhist life.

Aryajaya explores Sangharakshita’s relationship to his teachers, who form the lineage for the Triratna Buddhist Order. A lovely exploration of the experience of relationship to the Bodhisattvas of Buddhist tradition via meditations passed from teacher to disciple, evoking a wide open sense...

Hello all

Some people have been asking whether there is a PDF version of the IC Newsletter that went out on the Order address in March. Here it is now - though it loses a little in the formatting.

Here you’ll find updates on the International Council’s consultations, new initiatives on Access and Inclusion, on Divesting from Fossil Fuels, and an update on the Sikkha project.

You’ll also find out more about how the International Council works and who is on it, as well as...

What is a Triratna Centre? document

Sun, 18 Dec, 2016 - 21:25

The 2014 International Council meeting raised the question of what makes a bona fide Triratna Centre.

Principles and practices for Triratna centres were collated into a draft document. After widespread consultation through chairs and Area councils across the world, the International Council meeting in 2016 unanimously gave its full blessing to this final version.

This is the first time we have agreed on the principles of our lineage of responsibility. It is the fullest and most successful consultation the movement has conducted.

This is the document that has been agreed for use across...

Safeguarding children and vulnerable adults 2016

Tue, 13 Sep, 2016 - 07:34

Ensuring the sexual, physical and psychological safety of young people and vulnerable adults is an expression of the First Precept: avoiding causing harm; cultivating loving kindness.

Mindful of their responsibilities in this area, over the last four years Triratna’s European Chairs’ Assembly has been developing its model policies for the protection of children and ‘vulnerable adults’, sent to every Triratna Centre and enterprise in Europe, and also shared with Triratna Centres around the world.

The 2016 versions were presented to the meeting of the International Council in August and...

Triratna model ethical guidelines

Mon, 12 Sep, 2016 - 21:13

Updated March 8th 2017 to add a translation into French.

Here are the model ethical guidelines for Triratna centres and enterprises worldwide, which were presented at the International Council and European Chairs’ Assembly in August and September.

As ‘model’ documents, they are a suggested form of words which may be adopted just as they are, adapted or translated into other languages.

They have been published along with the latest version of Triratna’s model documents for safeguarding children and vulnerable adults....
