I took the above photo during the seminar Buddhadasa gave at our Buddhist Community this weekend just past.

He also came along to our Thursday night meditation at The croquet club last week.

Afterwards he gave me some feedback on the leading I gave in the meditation and the guts of it was ‘You talked too much’

We spent some time discussing it and he shared that when Sangharakshita founded our Buddhist movement back in the sixties he would not talk at all during a meditation. He would give instructions prior to it starting and after that ……………. silence! Just bells to mark the stages

To talk during meditation is to not allow you as fellow meditators the opportunity to really explore and allow your own mind to open and reveal itself.

I was a bit reactive and initially resisted the idea of absolutely no talking during a sit but I went away and reflected on it and on Sunday morning I led a sit with a simple explanation first and then ………. silence ………..

It was quite a revelation ……

So I’m going to keep this practice going and review it. There will be opportunity both before and after sits for people to ask questions and clarify.

So I hope you’ll come along and find out what it’s like to sit in the silence ….
