It was wonderful to have such a hearty turn-out from our Coogee Meditation Group to support Carol’s Mitra ceremony on Sunday evening

Mitra means friend and so becoming a mitra within the context of our Buddhist Community is as simple and as profound as making a formal expression of friendship.

It is not binding but rather a symbolic way of communicating to self and other that one intends to practice as a Buddhist within the context of The Triratna Buddhist Community: an international movement started back in 1969 by our founder Sangharakshita. Carol’s mitra ceremony took place along with seven other new mitras from the Sydney Buddhist Centre.

On another note a few people have asked me when we are going to have another retreat and sadly we won’t have a dedicated Coogee retreat until next year but I did notice that there’s an introductory retreat at our retreat centre over the weekend November 29 and 30. I would suggest visiting the Sydney Buddhist Centre website if you’re interested.

There’s also a longer retreat starting on Boxing Day and going through to New Year’s Day and both of these would be appropriate for any of you to attend. If you are interested I’ve put in a link below to the page on the Sydney Buddhist Centre website.
