Easter always feels like the end of summer to me. As a surfer I used to note that the water got colder and those balmy summer conditions were fading fast …..
And hey, we’re at the end of the first quarter of the new year!
Shakespeare had quite a bit to say about the elasticity of time; we experience it so differently depending on the pleasantness or unpleasantness of what’s happening. For a boy walking to school his moments of freedom pass very quickly but for a bored clerk the minutes crawl by ……..
What’s all this got to do with meditation? Well I just thought I’d riff about change and time. To change ourselves in a positive and fundamental way takes time. This bundle of habits that we are took a long time to get into the state it’s in and to change it will also take time.
So we need to practice with patience but also with the confidence that if we gently but persistently apply ourselves to meditation (the most direct way we can work with our mind) profoundly positive change will occur.
Life is constantly moving, changing and hopefully evolving so may we use our meditation practice to dance every so lightly and constructively within it.
