Having Your Cake and Eating it Too

A house-holder by the name of Dighajanu approached the Buddha one day and said ‘Hey your monks get plenty of teachings from you but we lay people who like nice things and like to cuddle up in our beds with our kids could use some advice that will lead to our welfare and happiness too.’ So the Buddha gave him four principles to live by that would help in both his present and future life.

I find it interesting that the Buddha gave teachings to people from every walk of life and living in both lay and monastic situations.

At our forthcoming retreat October 14 - 16 I am going to use this story from the Anguttara Nikaya as a basis for exploration and discussion about how we can apply the Buddha’s advice to enrich our own lives.

So please do come along and join us if that sounds interesting. There will be meditation, discussion, good vegetarian food and time to chill out and relax
