Sometimes there is a view that meditation is self-absorbed and even that the time might be better spent doing things of a more hands on nature.

But the Buddhist notion is that to get oneself sorted out is the most helpful thing one can do for everyone!

To know yourself, to cultivate a heart that is truly kind will bring immeasurable benefit to the world ……..

For this reason there’s a very traditional practice that Buddhist have called ‘Transference of Merit’ - at the end of formal meditation practice or any type of practice or study we literally give away any benefit that may have accrued. We give it away to all beings. It is a recognition that our well being is inextricably woven with the well being of others: to harm another is to harm yourself, to nurture another is to nurture yourself ….

A very transformative paradox.

I hope you can join us for meditation this week
