Dear Meditators
This week we are celebrating our first birthday as The Coogee Meditation Group. It was technically our birthday a few weeks back but celebrating has been delayed due to the challenge of lining up a Thursday when both Padmadakini and I could be there.
So on Thursday night we will celebrate by doing a 3 fold puja, a metta practice specifically bringing everyone to mind who has ever come along to one of our evenings and then finishing early to share a seriously yummy chocolate cake that I’ve had commissioned by a very talented cook.
A puja is a devotional ceremony done in call and response that expresses gratitude to The Buddha, his teachings and all those who aspire to put into practice his example and teachings. You don’t have to be a Buddhist to take part – you can simply look on it as an expression of gratitude for having access to meditation practices that help anyone to grow and develop beyond what we currently are. It’s a simple and beautiful ceremony which involves chanting and lighting and offering candles as a a symbol of the light that comes into our lives as a result of the dharma.
If you want to bring a symbolic gift to express your gratitude please do; flowers would be an excellent gift – not many as we won’t know what to do with them afterwards but perhaps just a single stem to place on the shrine ….
Anyway I really hope lots of you will make an extra effort to join us for this auspicious and joyful occasion.
Thursday night 7 – 8.30 pm Coogee Croquet Club
Much metta
Dharmalata and Padmadakini
PS: I am now creating a list of those who will be coming on our Coogee Meditation Retreat across the weekend of June 20 – 22. I’ve attached a flyer. Please let me know if you’d like to attend and / or you’d like more information. You do not need experience with meditation to attend.
PPS: On Sunday June 8th at 10.30 am we will have our croquet morning with the Coogee Croquet club members so please also let me know if you’d like to come along to learn to play croquet with us. I will need to give them approximate numbers.
