Dear Coogee Meditator

I’m focussing this week’s email to Wesak which is the traditional Buddhist celebration held to mark the Buddha breaking through to enlightenment and is observed by all schools of Buddhism

A particularly special part of  the day and a part I’d love you to come to is the puja at 7 pm. Matty and Steve, two of our Coogee sangha will have their mitra ceremonies as part of this ceremony and it would be excellent if you can support them.

NB: Held at The Sydney Buddhist Centre   24 Enmore Road Newtown

Here’s a link I found on Youtube of a very simple mitra ceremony held in our community in Ballina Ireland …… the production is not good but it will give you a sense of what happens. Ours will be bigger and more colourful as there will be far more people attending and it’s part of a major festival day.

Meditation runs as usual this week and of course you’re very warmly invited to that too and if anyone is interested in learning more about meditation and grounding their practice a little more I’m co-leading an Introduction to Meditation retreat at Vijayaloka, our lovely retreat centre 45 minutes from Sydney on the banks of the Georges River. You can book for that on this link:

Join us for the Buddha Day Festival!
Saturday 21 May

Dear friends,

The full moon day of May marks the festival of the Buddha’s Enlightenment. It’s the most important event on the Buddhist calendar, and a great opportunity to gather together in numbers and celebrate!

Sydney Buddhist Centre celebrates Buddha Day with a full festival on Saturday 21 May, a rich program of shared exploration, celebration, and, we hope, inspiration.

The morning session has the same times as the normal Saturday am class, and all are welcome to all or part of the day.

9.30am: Meditation both guided and unguided
10.30am: Morning Tea. Launch of “Dana Week”
11am: ’Meeting the Buddha’
12pm: Shared Lunch
2pm: ’Buddha’s Inspiration’
2.30pm: ‘Heading Into the Wilderness’
5.30pm: Shared Dinner. Launch of “Dana Week”
7pm: Special Buddha Day Puja with Mitra Ceremonies

Warm wishes,
Bodhidasa, Dharmananda, Ratnajyoti, Jen and Aryadharma
