What?

‘To follow the way is to study the self, to study the self is to forget the self‘  – Dogen

Dogen’s words suggest that a deep intimacy with ourselves leads to a profound reorientation of our understanding of our place in the world. On this day we will look at how meditation might allow us to find our place in the world and in so doing move the suffering that comes from being out of alignment with reality. Open to all with a regular practice, the day will explore how this realignment might be understood as a gesture of openness that we make with the whole of our body and mind.

When and Where?

Sun, 7th May, from 10:00 – 1:00 pm; on Zoom.

How much?

Fully Waged – £30

Concession – Part Waged – £25

Concession – Unwaged – £20

Ideal for: anyone with a regular meditation practice.

Creu sangha Cymraeg / Creating a Welsh speaking sangha

Ein gweledigaeth yw cael y Dharma ar gael i bawb yn eu mam iaith. I roi cyfle i bawb sy’n ymarfer y Dharma i gysylltu yn fwy llawn efo cryfder emosiynol sy’n dyfod trwy ymarfer yn eich mam iaith. Tydi’r Gymraeg ddim yn ffurf niwtral o gyfathrebu i siaradwyr Cymraeg, mae’n rhan hanfodol o ddiwylliant arbennig i Gymry Cymraeg, mae’r iaith ynghlwm a’r galon ac felly yn linc uniongyrchol i’r bywyd emosiynol. Mi ydan ni eisiau’r Dharma fod yn rhan o’r diwylliant pwysig yma.

Yng Nghymru, tan yn ddiweddar, nid oedd y Dharma ar gael yn Gymraeg a does dim llawer o adnoddau Dharmig ar gael trwy gyfrwng y Gymraeg. Yn ystod y cyfnod clo, fe ddaeth grwp bach o Fwdhyddion at ei gilydd i ymarfer ar lein. Er bod y Bwdhyddion hyn i gyd yn drwyadl yn Saesneg, nid Saesneg oedd iaith gyntaf y mwyafrif ohonynt ac felly maent yn teimlo ar adegau eu bod yn ymarfer mewn iaith dramor pan yn ymarfer drwy’r Saesneg. Efo’ch cefnogaeth chi, mae’r grwp yma o Aelodau Triratna, Mitras a phobl sy’n newydd i’r Dharma o Gymru ac ar wasgar drwy’r byd yn awyddus i rannu y Dharma yn ehangach.

Yr ydym yn ceisio codi arian i greu mwy o adnoddau Cymraeg er mwyn cynnal a chreu Sangha Cymraeg o bobl sydd eisiau ymarfer trwy’r Gymraeg. Mi fydd yr adnoddau newydd hyn yn cefnogi creu cyrsiau newydd trwy y Gymraeg ac felly yn caniatau inni gysylltu efo mwy o bobl newydd ac yn gwneud y Dharma yn rhan o ddiwylliant Cymreig.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Our vision is for the Dharma to be accessible to all in one’s mother tongue. To offer everyone practising the Dharma the opportunity to connect more fully with their cultural and emotional sources of strength and inspiration. The Welsh language isn’t just a neutral medium of communication, it is the heart of a distinct Welsh language culture, the language of the heart, the mother tongue, and a direct link to the inner emotional world. We want the Dharma to become part of that culture.

The Dharma in Wales has until recently only been available through the medium of English. There are few Dharma resources available in Welsh. During the lockdown, a group of Welsh speakers set up a small online group to practice together.  Members of this group say that although they are fluent in English, it is their second language and they will never be fully “at home” in English: it is, in some sense, foreign to them.

We are seeking funds to create new Welsh language materials and resources that will help us engage and build a new thriving Welsh language sangha.  The materials and resources will support us to develop new courses to engage with Welsh-speaking newcomers bringing the Dharma to the emotional heart of Wales.

World on Fire - Building Resilience in Tough Times

I am preparing this blurb in early September. Summer is lingering and the days are still long. But as I reflect on our day together in late Oct I am only too aware that we will be well into the autumn and inevitably feeling the pinch of the energy and cost of living crises.

How can we use the Dharma to help us be resilient in the face of unstable times like these? How can we harness the power of our minds to avoid being swept away by anxiety and fears? What did the Buddha have to say about navigating tricky times like these?

The day retreat will include input, calming and strengthening meditation practices, and small groups where you can share your experience.

When and Where?

22nd October, 11:00 am - 4:00 pm

On Zoom

How much?

Fully waged: £50

Part waged: £35

Low waged: £15

Subhadassi Creative Writing Workshops "Season songs"

The Long Voice Of Water

What?

Subhadassi is running a series of online writing workshops. In each session we’ll use creative writing as a way to deepen our awareness and reflection, mining the rich seam that stretches between creative writing and Dharma practice. The four workshops will flow across the four seasons, and help us to mark the turnings of the year. The sessions are for regular meditators but no experience of creative writing is necessary.

When?

There will be a session around each solstice (shortest/longest days of the year) and each equinox (dates when the day and night are equal in length). We’ll start in midwinter 2021, and end around the autumn equinox in 2022. Each session will run from 10:00 am - 12.30 pm, and will work as a ‘stand alone’ session if you are not able to make all four.

Schedule:

Session 1: ‘Water like a stone’

Date: 18.12.21

Session 2: ‘When weeds, in wheels, shoot long and lovely and lush’

Coming Home - a meditation day with Rijumitra

Coming Home

What?

A day of practice to settle the mind and come back to the heart with Rijumitra who lives and teaches at the Vajraloka Retreat Centre.

The Vajraloka Meditation Centre is run by a team of men who have decided to live here in North Wales and dedicate themselves to their meditation practice. The team is known for its friendliness and hospitality. We are all committed Dharma practitioners with many years of Buddhist practice behind us, the fruits of which we are always willing to share with our guests or with other centres.

We’ll explore why “access concentration” or perhaps more simply “presence” is important and how it’s often more available than we think it is.

When?

4th December, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Where?

Online, on Zoom, however there will be breaks from the screen in order to rest, reflect and take the teaching deeper.

How much?

Fully waged: £50

Part waged:  £35

Unwaged:     £15

Please book your place here, you will be sent your Zoom access code a few days before the course starts.
