Change ourselves... change the world

On Tuesday 30th June, the Cardiff sangha took part in an evening of talks, discussions and workshops on the theme “Change ourselves - change the world”.  This event was held as part on Buddhist Action Month 2015.

The first workshop was on ‘Vegetarianism and Veganism’ and included watching and discussing the very inspirational clip from Matthieu Ricard on “Keeping a Vegan and Vegetarian Diet”:

Facts about consuming animals/ animal products

Cardiff Buddhist Centre are running a range of workshops at the BAM Sangha night and one of the workshops is on vegetariansim and veganism. We know some people come along and struggle to give up meat and fish and we wanted to have a resource which clearly describes the facts about eating meat, fish and dairy products and the impact this has on the beings we consume and the environment we inhabit. Here are some notes I took on discussions at a recent Dharma Teachers Gathering that I attended in New York. Climate change was one of three major topics we discussed about the Dharma meeting the world. The other two topics were ‘mainstream’ Mindfulness and issues around race. We are not alone in being interested in these things!

Healthy Vegan diet??

I was inspired to write something about Vegan nutrition as some people may be considering a Vegan diet, particularly during BAM. It is an important part of the ethical consideration in becoming Vegan - ie looking after ones own health.

This is a very basic introduction, with the aim of raising awareness; I’ve recommended some books for those who want to explore this further.

BAM 2015 at Cambridge Buddhist Centre

Buddhist Action Month 2015 launched tonight at the Cambridge Buddhist Centre with a screening of the documentary ‘Wisdom to Survive”.

There was a lot of positive energy for the role of community and action at a local level and we are all excited for the fantastic programme of events planned throughout June.
