We’ve planned a great series of Friday evening events at the Bristol Buddhist Centre for BAM this year and are much looking forward to kicking BAM off with our first one this week. We’ll be focusing on a different theme each week, and there will be plenty of time to discuss our individual responses and actions that we might want to take. Come and join us - everyone is welcome to all of the evenings.

Arrive from 7.15pm for a prompt 7.30pm...

The small sangha in Vancouver, BC is joining BAM for the first time this year. In addition to the weekly sangha night program and BAM precepts, we are running a day retreat and a solstice camping weekend retreat. We will join the “No Trans Mountain Pipeline” rally on June 9th, perhaps doing some meditation if appropriate.

Interreligious climate pilgrim from Oslo

Interreligious climate pilgrim from Oslo

Wed, 22 May, 2019 - 21:25

To inspire greater collaberation around climat action we organize in Oslo an Interreligious climat pilgrimage from Oslo to Fredrikstad to the South of Oslo. Search Facebook for @klimapilgrimsvandring.

We believe that all the various faith systems have in them both dogmas, texts and practices that aim at preserving the environment. If we can connect with the deeper values regarding the environment, in different spiritual networks, it will be easier to mobilize for common environmental causes. We also think that a shift to more...

Direct Action Meditations and the Dharma

Thu, 9 May, 2019 - 12:49

I’m passionate about the Dharma, including the wisdom perspective. I’m passionate about spreading the Dharma. As well as spending the last ten years of my life in service to Taraloka, I’ve also started up West Wales Buddhist Group, in Aberystwyth, where we’re growing a lively sangha. I’m passionate about Maitreya, my yidam - Bodhisattva of Metta and Buddha of the Future - who meditates at the city gates, in the middle of the world, not in a quiet cave somewhere....

The Three Jewels meet the Climate Emergency

The Three Jewels meet the Climate Emergency

From Triratna News on Mon, 11 Feb, 2019 - 16:05

In December the Bristol Buddhist Centre hosted a practice morning on the theme ‘The Three Jewels Meet the Climate Emergency’. The event offered a space for the Sangha to come together to explore thoughts and feelings around the climate emergency, how Dharma practice helps with facing the reality of the situation, and what ‘taking action’ might look like in this context. This was followed by an action outside Barclays bank in the afternoon with meditation, leafletting and singing ‘climate carols.’

Thank you Amrtanadi for such a beautiful, heartfelt and clear piece. So inspiring to hear about you teaching the Metta Bhavana to activists. Helping people deepen self metta and not demonise others feels such a vital contribution.

Much love

Voices from the Buddhist world 8

From Sangharakshita Memorial Space on Fri, 9 Nov, 2018 - 13:06

Here is a further appreciation of Bhante’s life and work, from Sulak Sivaraksa of the International Network of Engaged Buddhists, which will appear in the next edition of the INEB magazine ‘Seeds of Peace’.

“Sangharakshita was born Dennis Lingwood in London in 1925. When he was young, there were very few English books on Buddhism. However, he felt that he had always been a Buddhist, and began reading about the religion from the encyclopaedia and other...
