Coronavirus Grants for Triratna Order Members

Wed, 1 Apr, 2020 - 18:21

The Abhayaratna Trust is responding to the financial hardship resulting from the spread of Covid-19 by offering short term relief through cash grants of up to £500 per Order member as support at this time.

Many Order members are self-employed and the sudden loss of income has left some of them without the resources to pay food and utility bills and with rent shortfalls. Access to state benefits can be too slow or not available in many countries.

Grants for Order members affected by Coronavirus

Tue, 24 Mar, 2020 - 13:22

The Abhayaratna Trust is responding to the financial hardship resulting from the spread of Covid-19. We are offering short term relief through cash grants of up to £500 per Order member as support in urgent need at this time.

We made our first £3000 of grants last week. We know from our general grant programme that many of us have few or no resources, and will struggle with food, bills and rent shortfalls.

So if you are struggling financially and would be helped by...

The Abhayaratna Trust Local Care Network Training

From Triratna News on Thu, 20 Feb, 2020 - 16:19

The Abhayaratna Trust is embarking on a new project called the Local Care Network (LCN) project! The idea behind this is to help develop and embed a more explicit and organised culture of care and support in the Order for Order members who need it, including accessing financial assistance and other services (for more details, visit their website and watch a short video about it).

The project is a collaborative effort involving external agencies...

Interested in making a difference to what we do?

Tue, 18 Feb, 2020 - 11:37

The Abhayaratna Trust exists to relieve hardship among members of the Triratna Buddhist Order. Inspired by Sangharakshita’s teaching on A Case of Dysentery, our main role is offering the infrastructure to help Order members help each other.

We are looking for one or two Order Members to join our existing four Trustees, to help oversee and develop the work of the Trust at an exciting time in the Trust’s development. We would particularly like to hear from you if you have some...

Best wishes to Ratnachuda

Mon, 27 Jan, 2020 - 16:59

As many people will know, Ratnachuda has been a dedicated servant to the Three Jewels spanning many years; his willingness to help others has touched many people’s lives.
This deep care and concern for others led him to becoming a Trustee of The Abhayaratna Trust nearly eight years ago. He gave dedicated service and we particularly appreciated his lively intelligence, enthusiasm and pioneering spirit; his love of the Order is clear. Now he has stepped down, giving...

Thank you to Vidusi

Tue, 5 Nov, 2019 - 15:40

We are very grateful to Vidusi for her work as an Abhayaratna Trustee over the last 6 years. During this time she has attended regular Trustee meetings in Birmingham and helped make decisions on giving grants to those who have applied, as well as on Trust policy. When asked about her motivation to volunteer as a Trustee, Vidusi said;

“I value the Order very highly and want to do something for those who need an extra bit of help.”

Thank you Vidusi. On behalf...

Wed, 23 Oct, 2019 - 13:04

The Order in India are getting together for their Convention next month. Abhayaratna Trust is gifting 50 free places to women and men there. We’d love to support a further 25 places at a cost of £25 each - yes it’s really only £25 - but that’s a lot when you have little or no income.

Could you donate £25 - or any other amount - today to gift one place?

Five myths about the Abhayaratna Trust

Five myths about the Abhayaratna Trust

Wed, 16 Oct, 2019 - 16:25

1. That we have central funding from the movement to support Order members;

       We don’t! We’re a separate charity solely relying on your individual donations to help care for individual Order members needing support. We don’t fund institutions or Dharma projects.

2. That we are here to help elderly Order members only;

   Not so! We’re here for Order members of any age who request support. If it appears otherwise, that’s because when we started 11 years ago we imagined it would only...

The Heart of the Sorrow performance

Wed, 11 Sep, 2019 - 10:38

If you are in or near Manchester on Saturday September 28th, you are warmly invited to the Manchester Buddhist Centre for a one-off performance of The Heart of the Sorrow - the myth of Orpheus in the Underworld as told by Jinavamsa and Taradakini through their original songs and narrative. It’s an interpretation which draws out the significance of this myth for us today in turning towards the facts of our existence.

The 40 minute performance is to raise funds for the Abhayaratna Trust, which gives financial support to...

Creating a Local Care Network

Wed, 11 Sep, 2019 - 10:16

The Abhayaratna Trust sees the potential in developing a network of local support for elderly and unwell members of the Triratna Buddhist Order. It’s another step in Abhayaratna Trust’s encouragement of the Triratna Community developing a consistent culture of care.

The project will get underway next year in Manchester. You can read more about it here https://abhayaratnatrust.org/local-care-network-details and consider supporting this significant project by donating towards our £2500 pilot training and research costs.
