Dhamma Revolution Retreat at Adhisthana 17-19 November

Posted by vajratara on Tue, 1 Aug, 2017 - 11:22

‘After my contact with Dr Ambedkar and his followers I became much more aware of the social dimension of Buddhism and, in fact, the social dimension of life itself’

Dr Ambedkar is, in Sangharakshita’s terminology, one of the greatest Buddhists of the 20th century and a profound influence on Sangharakshita’s life and thought. Deeply committed to the uplift of the most marginalised communities in India, Dr Ambedkar saw the Dhamma as a means of individual and social transformation. This...

An opportunity to join India Dhamma Trust

Posted by vajratara on Sat, 29 Apr, 2017 - 13:32

We have a new opportunity to support Dhamma work in India by joining the India Dhamma Trust team as a trustee treasurer. A third of our Order and roughly half of the Movement is in India with a fraction of the resources we have in the UK.  There are an estimated 10 million people who have embraced Buddhism, but who need guidance from a committed Sangha on how to deepen their practice.  Would you like to make a significant...

Dr Ambedkar and Buddhism - Conference in West London - Sunday May 7th 2017

Posted by Dhammavijaya on Thu, 26 Jan, 2017 - 11:33

This conference will explore why Dr Ambedkar embraced Buddhism and why he encouraged his followers to do the same. We will look at how Buddhism is practised in India now, and how it has changed the lives of many of its followers. We will ask how Dr Ambedkar’s understanding of Buddhism can influence Buddhist practice all over the world, and we will examine what the future holds for Buddhism in India.

As followers of Dr Ambedkar living in Europe, your attendance, input,...

Triratna on the BBC World Service

Posted by vajratara on Mon, 18 Apr, 2016 - 12:45

Listen to this recent BBC radio documentary featuring our very own Maitriveer Nagarjuna! It is about why the Dalits, after generations of oppression, are converting to Buddhism. An interesting listen in that it highlights the problems of caste, which it calls apartheid, as well as the current difficulties the new Buddhists face as they leave the dominant Hindu culture. However, I think it presents conversion to Buddhism as a reaction against Hinduism and underplays the inspiration of following the Buddhist path...

At the Feet of the Buddha
31st January - 7th February 2016

International Order Retreat at Bodhgaya.

This unique retreat follows the very successful one held earlier this year when 200 Order members from India and the West met to practice together at the feet of the Buddha.

Skilfully led by Subhuti, the retreat structure involves spending the day practising together at the Three Jewels Centre and each evening we go to the Mahabodhi temple to sit at the Buddha’s feet in meditation and puja.
With focus on our collective activities and...

A story from India of what friendship can do

Posted by vajratara on Tue, 29 Sep, 2015 - 12:14

I’m thinking about the upcoming Order Retreat in Bodhgaya, and it reminded me to post some of my thoughts from my visit to India last year.

It soon became evident that the Order retreat was powered by a band of brothers, some very good friends who had taken on organising the retreat.  Watching their ease of working with each other, their laughter and joking, it reminded me of the team at Tiratanaloka and I was interested to hear their story.

They met in...
