Our main theme for Buddhist Action Month is food ethics. We held an evening on the topic on the 1st June, ranging from reflection to practical tips as well as some actual eating. Everyone was invited to think about one or two steps they could take in the direction of eating compassionately. We’ll return to the topic at the end of the month, to see if we’ve made progress.

It will be interesting to hear what members of the Sangha have come up with. One of my plans for this month was to see if I could live for a month with zero waste - i.e. not buying anything that has packaging that can’t be recycled and ends up in landfill. I’m only a few days in and realize how very difficult it is! Nut and oat milks I’ve found are very easy to make so tetrapaks have been the easy thing to avoid - but I have yet to locate a shop locally where I can buy dried beans, nuts, coffee, etc that is not wrapped in plastic …. I will report back how I get on :)
