‘Religion Without God’, an exciting series planned for our October Sangha Nights.

This October we’ll be looking at how you can have a full spiritual life as a 21st Century American without recourse to blind faith or setting yourself against the rational world we find ourselves in. The Buddha faced some of the same dilemmas as us in India in 500 BCE, and we face some new challenges with 2500 years of culture and experience in between his time and our own.

October 3rd: Religion without God - A Radical Community of Values

October 10th: Sex and Morality in Buddhism - Going Beyond Puritanism

October 17th: Death and the Biggest Questions of All

October 24th: Magic for the Modern World

The first week will be on Sangha and personal values as the bases of a radical spiritual life

The second will be on trying to bring awareness to all our views, especially those that have formed our (unconscious) views of other people and society at large.

The third will look at the Buddhist tradition around death and how it interplays with the contemporary scientific materialist worldview.

The final week will be on meditation and working with the mind (via the Neoplatonists!) as effective magic for altering the world in perception and experience.

Led by Candradasa, Director of Dharmachakra, which produces Free Buddhist Audio and the new Triratna Buddhist Community website.

Our Sangha Nights are held on Wednesday evenings, from 7 - 9 pm at 40 Congress Street, Portsmouth. (Enter on Fleet Street, we’re on the 4th floor).

Please note there will be no class on October 31st, Halloween.
